About This Vehicle
The Triumph 2000 Mk2 has long been admired for its handsome Michelotti styling, refined driving manners and effortless touring ability. Once a familiar sight on British roads, it is now becoming a genuinely rare classic. Of the approximately 310,000 Triumph 2000s produced, only 655 are currently licensed for use on UK roads, making good examples increasingly difficult to find.
This 1973 Triumph 2000 Mk2 is an exceptionally well preserved example, finished in the wonderful period colour of Pimento Red. The bodywork is quite outstanding, with beautifully straight, original panels and excellent panel fit throughout. The paintwork is virtually unmarked and has a glorious depth of shine that really has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. So many surviving cars have suffered from poor quality repairs over the years, yet this example has clearly been cherished throughout its life. It is genuinely difficult to emphasise just how exceptional both the condition and originality are without viewing the car.
Accompanying the car is a huge history file built up over many years, containing numerous invoices, receipts and supporting documentation that illustrate careful maintenance and long term ownership. Also present is the original owner's handbook, adding further to the car's authenticity and appeal.
Mechanically the Triumph is every bit as impressive. Powered by the legendary smooth Triumph 2,000cc straight-six, six-cylinder engine, it delivers effortless performance together with the refinement and silky smoothness for which these cars are renowned. It is fitted with the desirable four-speed manual gearbox with overdrive operating on both third and fourth gears, all functioning smoothly and exactly as they should. The car drives beautifully with the relaxed, refined character that made these cars so highly regarded when new.
Another pleasing indication of the care this car has received is the matching set of Dunlop SP2000 Sport tyres. Enthusiasts will appreciate that quality branded tyres are often a sign of conscientious ownership, and they complement the car perfectly.
Structurally the Triumph is exceptionally good, with very solid floors, sills and outriggers showing no signs of previous repair work. It is an honest, well preserved example that stands head and shoulders above the vast majority of surviving cars.
Classed a historic vehicle it benefits from Mot exemption and free road tax.
This is a truly standout example of an increasingly rare British executive saloon. It is certain to attract admiration wherever it goes, whether at local classic car shows, club meetings or simply out on the open road. Opportunities to purchase a Triumph 2000 Mk2 of this calibre are becoming few and far between.
Two things need to be mentioned on the vehicle, it has a slight bearing noise from the rear differential and the speedo has just stopped working (The cable has broken) 'Speedy cables' offer a replacement with a 2 week turnaround. As mentioned above, it is a lovely car but very much 'Tinker at your pleasure'! Use and improve. Priced very sensibly indeed.
